Pavla Rosenstein
Pavla Rosenstein is a 4th year PhD candidate in Assyriology, researching social and economic history in ancient Mesopotamia. Prior to her PhD Pavla worked in media and communications, serving as fashion editor for Clash magazine and developing strategic communication strategies for a range of non-profit clients including the UN and Channel 4 in the UK. She completed an MA in Technology as a Cultural Form at Goldsmiths College, University of London and a BA (Hons) in History, Cambridge University.
Pavla is dedicated to equitable teaching, ensuring that all students are provided with inclusive opportunities to learn and that teaching is accessible, inspiring and engaging, especially when it comes to inaccessible and underfunded disciplines. She has been applying these principles when teaching elementary Akkadian (an ancient cuneiform language), leading the Codex Hammurabi colloquium (discussing one of the earliest law collections in history) and working as a Teaching Fellow for an introductory class on ancient Mesopotamia.
Pavla is active in public outreach initiatives. For the past three years she produced content for the Yale Babylonian Collection’s social media, created free and publicly available introductions to studying Akkadian and Sumerian languages and co-facilitated a workshop on public outreach and pedagogy at the Rencontre conference for Assyriologists.
