Writing Bootcamps and Study Halls
Save The Date: We offer a series of six Writing Study Halls titled “Get It Done in June” on the following dates:
- Tuesdays, June 6th, 13th, and 20th, 9am to 12:30pm,
- Thursdays, June 8th, 15th, 22nd, 1:30pm to 5pm.
Many graduate students recognize that writing can be an isolating activity and that finding motivation can sometimes be difficult. To counteract these hurdles, the Graduate Writing Lab offers frequent Writing Bootcamps and Study Halls, allowing you to make significant progress on your dissertation or other writing projects while enjoying the camaraderie and support of your peers. Bootcamps are all-day writing sessions that offer you a productive, goal-oriented work environment. Long stretches of writing are broken up by lunch, physical exercise, and accountability check-ins. Like Bootcamps, Study Halls provide a quiet space to work, but are much shorter to accommodate busy schedules. Bootcamps and Study Halls fill up fast, so keep an eye out for upcoming sessions!
Writing Bootcamps and Study Halls are meant for Master’s students and Ph.D. candidates who are in the process of writing their research papers, prospectuses, dissertation chapters, or other writing projects and need space, time, and company. These programs are also an excellent resource for those students who want to meet their dissertation submission deadline.
To find out more and sign up for these events, check your email for our weekly electronic Graduate Writing Lab newsletter! Registration opens three weeks before each session.

Study Halls are abbreviated versions of the Dissertation Bootcamps, with three hours of writing per session. They provide students with structured writing time, effective writing strategies, and space to work on their term papers, prospectuses, dissertation chapters, and articles for publication. Study Halls are scheduled throughout the academic year and alternate between morning and afternoon sessions. Below is an example schedule for the morning sessions:
9:00 – 9:15 am – Setting up goals for the day
9:15 – 12:15 pm – Writing, writing, and writing
12:15– 12:30 pm – Accountability session
During these programs we provide drinks and snacks; morning and late afternoon sessions include breakfast and dinner, respectively.
A summer Study Hall series is also offered as the program “Get It Done in June,” which consists of regular Study Halls for the entire month of June.
