Ben Card
Ben Card is a PhD candidate in the Department of English and the program of Early Modern Studies. He specializes in 16th- and 17th-century prose and poetry. His dissertation, “Fictions of Heresy in English Literature, 1625-1689,” looks at accusations of wrong religion made against this period’s writers—and how those early accusations have inflected scholarship ever since. Supported by a 2022 Teaching Innovation Grant, Ben runs ENGL 114 and 115 classes on the history of college and campus fiction, with a special focus on Yale. In addition to teaching early modern literature at Connecticut College and the University of Cambridge, Ben has taught composition at Southern Connecticut State University and Gateway Community College. He is excited to co-facilitate workshops at the Poorvu Center this year as a McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow.
