First-generation and low-income students form a diverse and rapidly growing student population. How can we best support these students in the specific challenges they face and how can we design our classes with these students in mind? In this workshop, we will analyze first-generation and low-income students’ experiences through first-person narratives and discuss evidence-based strategies to enhance their learning and overall success. Within the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we will explore how these equitable teaching practices will help all of our students succeed.
