Classrooms for Teaching

The Yale Center for Teaching and Learning (301 York Street) in Sterling Memorial Library features several spaces designed to accommodate courses and other teaching and learning activities. To request CTL space for a Yale class or related activity, please review this information and submit the application form. Due to expected demand, we may not be able to accommodate all requests to use the CTL for courses.

Listed below are the classrooms and learning spaces available to instructors upon request.

First Floor

Room 120 A

Capacity: The space is optimized for up to 20 people. Please note, though, that we can open the partition between Rooms 120A and 120B to accommodate courses up to 35 students.  
Technology: In order to maximize flexibility there is no fixed technology in the room. You will have access to a mobile media station that includes a 65” display that you and your students will be to connect to wirelessly. The station also includes a computer, should you prefer not to use your own laptop. Should you need to use more than one mobile media station for your course, we can work with you to arrange for this. A CTL staff member will be available to demonstrate the mobile media station for you before your first class session. 
Writing surface: There are multiple glass surfaces on the walls you can write on. There are also portable whiteboards in the CTL that you can bring into this room. 
Furniture: The room includes approximately 12 rectangular desks, 18 classroom chairs, and 4 soft chairs that can all be rearranged at the start of every class session to provide you with the specific arrangement that best meets your teaching style. 

Room 120 B

Capacity: The room is optimized for 12 people. Please note, though, that we can open the partition between Rooms 120A and 120B to accommodate courses up to 35 students.

Room 120 C

Capacity: The room is optimized for 20 people. 
Technology:  In order to maximize flexibility there is no fixed technology in the room. You will have access to a mobile media station that includes a 65” display that you and your students will be to connect to wirelessly. The station also includes a computer, should you prefer not to use your own laptop. Should you need to use more than one mobile media station for your course, we can work with you to arrange for this. A CTL staff member will be available to demonstrate the mobile media station for you before your first class session.

Room 121

Capacity: The room is optimized for up to 30 people.
Technology: There are two projectors mounted to the ceiling, each with a dedicated screen. There are cameras mounted to the back wall should you wish to record your class sessions. There are also speakers embedded in the ceiling for enhanced sound. A CTL staff member will be available to demonstrate how to use the technology components in this room before your first class session.
Writing surface: Two of the walls can be used as whiteboards. There are also portable whiteboards in the CTL that you can bring into this room. 
Furniture: The room includes approximately 15 rectangular desks and 30 classroom chairs that can all be rearranged at the start of every class session to provide you with the specific arrangement that best meets your teaching style. 

Room 118A (Teaching & Learning Studio)

Capacity: This room is optimized for 12 people, but can fit up to 16.
Technology: There are two displays fixed to the wall that you and your students can connect to wirelessly. There are also two ceiling mounted projectors, each with a dedicated screen. There is a motion-tracking camera mounted to the ceiling should you wish to record your class sessions. A CTL staff member will be available to demonstrate how to use the technology components in this room before your first class session.
Writing surface: One of the main walls can be used as a whiteboard. There are also portable whiteboards in the CTL that you can bring into this room. 
Furniture: 4 rectangular desks, 12 classroom chairs
Notes: Training is required before a community member can take advantage of the self-service option


Second Floor (Mezzanine)

Room M104A

Capacity: Optimized for 12, can likely fit up to 18.
Technology: In order to maximize flexibility there is no fixed technology in the room. You will have access to a mobile media station that includes a 65” display that you and your students will be to connect to wirelessly. The station also includes a computer, should you prefer not to use your own laptop. Should you need to use more than one mobile media station for your course, we can work with you to arrange for this. A CTL staff member will be available to demonstrate the mobile media station for you before your first class session.

117 Hillhouse Ave

TEAL Classroom

Location: 117 Hillhouse Ave., 1st floor
Capacity: up to 126 
Technology: 5 projectors and screens, 14 60” LCD monitors, 8 HD whiteboard cameras, instructor PC with two monitors and Crestron wireless room control, document camera, two mics (lavaliere or wireless handheld)
Writing surface: Multiple whiteboards
Furniture: 14 round tables with 9 chairs each
