In past years, Yale Ph.D. students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Postdoctoral Fellows or Associates were invited to submit proposals for Teaching Innovation Project (TIP) Grants (formerly the DEI grants program). Grants in the amount of $1,000 were awarded to support the creation of innovative educational resources that promote learning in classrooms or other teaching settings. The Poorvu Center is committed to honoring the many forms excellent teaching may take, recognizing that teaching effectiveness is not reliant on digital forms. In past years, the grants funded teaching projects with a digital component to comply with a gift indenture. We have diversified the funding for these projects, and this year we welcome proposals of all kinds.

Any proposed project that promotes student learning will be considered, including:

• Creating resources for learning in a course or discipline, such as guides to writing in the discipline, guides to teaching difficult concepts, or guides to reading in the discipline.
• Creating resources for assessing student learning.
• Building an inclusive framework for a course.
• Building online activities, tools or resources.
• Creating activities or resources with innovative use of mobile devices.
• Building interactive simulations, activities or resources.

The selection committee will evaluate applications based on the following criteria:

• Impact on student or user learning
• Feasibility
• Originality
• Plan for implementation, sustainability, and, if relevant, dissemination

Application information:

• Deadline for submissions in past years fell in mid-spring (March). 
• Access the application via Qualtrics
• Review previous projects, including grants awarded in 2022

Grantees will receive:

• $1000 (per individual or team of people up to four people)
• Professional development workshops
• Access to Yale digital education & educational development staff
• Invitation to participate in a campus-wide public showcase of developed projects

Important Dates:

• Recipients are required to attend professional development sessions (about 4) between May and August. These can be attended virtually. 
• Recipients submit showcase presentations of their projects in December or January.
