Yale Center for Teaching and Learning

Teaching @ Yale Day (T@YD)

Join us for Teaching at Yale Day, an event to orient graduate students and professional school students who are new to teaching at Yale.

Attendees will:

  • learn how to establish equitable learning environments;
  • gain insight into the student and faculty perspectives on graduate teaching and the role of the teaching fellow or part-time acting instructor;
  • receive an introduction to the many teaching resources available at Yale;
  • discover how to engage students.

This program is a requirement for all first-time GSAS graduate instructors at Yale, whether you’re serving as a teaching fellow (TF) or a part-time acting instructor (PTAI), with the exception of language part-time acting instructors. If you are teaching a language course (or are a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant), you should instead participate in the Center for Language Study (CLS) Pedagogy Workshop which is specifically designed for language instructors. Please contact Mary Jo Lubrano (maryjo.lubrano@yale.edu) for information about the CLS pedagogy workshop and registration. Professional school students are encouraged to join us.

The program is specifically designed to orient you to Yale and Yale’s resources, so it is required even if you have taught at another institution.

If you have attended Teaching at Yale Day in a previous year, you need not attend again.

Spring 2024 Teaching at Yale Day events

Spring Teaching at Yale Day will consist of three parts. If you want to know whether you’re required to attend, or if you’re interested in coming regardless, please fill out our form to learn more. This form will walk you through the required events and auto-register you accordingly.

  1. Engaging Students: A synchronous workshop on Zoom. Participants should register for one of the four sessions, which will be held throughout the week of January 8th. These sessions will not be recorded.

  2. In-Person Small Group Discussions

    • These sessions will be held in person on January 12th from 2 to 3:30.

  3. Equitable Teaching Panel / Teaching Resource Videos and Reflection

    • You will view and complete a brief required reflection about a recorded panel of Yale faculty and staff discussing how they foster an equitable teaching environment, along with four short videos about Yale resources. These recordings, and the accompanying reflection questions, will be available in December.
