Now more than ever, it’s important to have an understanding of the core concepts, capabilities, and implications of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this session, we will analyze what competencies are required of faculty and students to meaningfully engage with AI systems, assess their impact on society, and make informed decisions regarding their use. To do so, we will cover the following topics: . . 1) Brief overview on basic principles of AI (key terms, how it works, popular tools, etc.). Please note this may be a review for some and brand new for others.. . 2) AI Literacy: what are the essential skills necessary to foster deeper learning for ourselves and our students? (ethical considerations, critical thinking, practical skills, adaptability, etc.). . 3) AI Literacy in Practice: we will hear from two students who are on the cutting edge of generative AI learning and research.… . This session will be 90 minutes, in person with lunch provided. There will also be a virtual option in case people wish to participate online.
