What to Expect

This four-part workshop series is designed to help new and returning teaching fellows build confidence in the classroom, develop a wide range of concrete tools for leading an engaging and effective discussion section, and address challenges specific to teaching in the social sciences. The first session will include tips for the first day of class, how to create a policy sheet, and how to plan and design a lesson. Later meetings will introduce you to theories of how people learn, trouble-shooting common problems, how to assess your students’ learning, and how to grade effectively and efficiently. Finally, each week you will also have the opportunity to explore specific issues that have unfolded in your current or past sections.

If you have any questions, please contact Katie at katherrine.healey@yale.edu or Yasmmyn at yasmmyn.salinas@yale.edu

Participating in at least three of the four sessions is required for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP).
