Using Twitter as a teaching tool in STEM classes: The value of a very, very short writing assignment

Event Description

Dr. Margaret Rubega, University of Connecticut, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Title: “Using Twitter as a teaching tool in STEM classes: The value of a very, very short writing assignment”

Abstract: The most important goal of all STEM teaching is not the learning of facts, but the acquisition of certain habits of mind. Thus, inquiry-based learning has come to be widely valued, but can be difficult to implement in large classes without laboratory components. Dr. Rubega will describe her work using a Twitter assignment in a large Ornithology course to create a highly effective active-learning component of the course outside the classroom.
