Academic Job Search Series: Writing the Diversity Statement
This workshop will offer strategies on how to write a diversity statement that can both ring true and be effective when writing your job applications. We will address the following: What is a diversity statement? What differentiates it from a personal statement? How might a committee use a diversity statement to evaluate an applicant’s qualifications and assets? Should you always write one if asked? Working through key definitions, targeted tips, and examples from the field, this workshop culminates in a peer review using a diversity statement rubric that is utilized by one real institution. Participants are encouraged to bring a draft of their diversity statement but will also have time in the beginning to jot down some ideas.
