Course Websites and Blogs

Yale ITG began offering WordPress sites for courses in the summer of 2006. The first site was made by students studying Modern British Architecture in London. Over 100 courses a year now use WordPress.

Yale CoursePress is a WordPress platform offered by Yale’s Instructional Technology Group. It is for students and faculty who need a flexible, online platform to help them with their academic work.

CoursePress sites are for time bound course sites, or umbrella course portals with re-usable content, hosted on Yale servers.

CoursePress is faculty and students in Yale courses to collaborate, communicate, and publish on the Internet.

This service is free.

Benefits 

The main features of this service are the following:

  • Anyone with a NetID can access CoursePress sites through CAS authentication, unless otherwise specified through privacy settings determined by the site administrator.
  • CoursePress sites are available to current faculty or current administrators who are requesting a site on behalf of a faculty member teaching a course. Course sites can be requested at http://coursepress.yale.edu/request-a-site accessible via NetID.
  • Sites can be set to public or private, specified through privacy settings determined by the site administrator. Site administrators can determine what role first time visitors will assume when they initially log-in to a given site.
  • Faculty or Administrative support staff may request course sites at any time during the academic calendar for a course being taught that academic year.
  • Requests for sites for the following academic year will be available after July 1, the start of the fiscal year for the corresponding academic year.
  • Current sites will remain available at the service URL for 4 consecutive academic years, archived prior to the start of the academic year.

How to Get Support 

The first line of support is offered by the ITS HelpDesk (Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

The IT Help Desk provides the client with an incident/request tracking number. The Help Desk will assign the appropriate Priority, based on the Impact and Urgency of the issue, and will ensure the issue is escalated to that the appropriate support team responsible for the associated service as necessary.
